A Real Experience With Mr. Harrison Pearce & His Family
This is a real experience from my work as a private driver and local tour organizer in Bali.
I’m Oka, a local private driver in Bali. In this article, I want to share the real experience of Mr. Will Pearce and his family from Australia during their private Ubud waterfall tour.
They were staying in Kuta–Legian and wanted to visit three waterfalls in Ubud in one day:
- Tegenungan Waterfall
- Kanto Lampo Waterfall
- Tibumana Waterfall
They chose a private driver because they wanted a more comfortable trip, a flexible schedule, and local recommendations along the way.
Here is the actual itinerary we followed.
3 Ubud Waterfalls to Visit From Kuta–Legian
09:00 AM — Pick Up From Hotel in Kuta–Legian
I picked up Mr. Will Pearce and his family from their hotel in Kuta–Legian at 9:00 AM.
Our first destination was Tegenungan Waterfall.
The journey from Kuta–Legian to Tegenungan normally takes around 1.5 hours, depending on Bali traffic.
10:30 AM — Arrive at Tegenungan Waterfall
We arrived at Tegenungan Waterfall at approximately 10:30 AM.
Time spent: around 1 hour
The family explored the waterfall area, enjoyed the scenery, and had time to relax before continuing to the next destination.
11:30 AM — Leave for Kanto Lampo Waterfall
At around 11:30 AM, we left Tegenungan Waterfall.
The drive to Kanto Lampo took approximately 30 minutes.
12:00 PM — Kanto Lampo Waterfall
We arrived at Kanto Lampo at around 12:00 PM.
Time spent: around 45 minutes
The family did not use the local photographer service because they mainly wanted to experience and explore the waterfall.
Local Tip From a Bali Driver
Kanto Lampo is well known for its popular photo spots, and there can be a queue for tourists who want photos taken by local photographers.
During busy periods, the waiting time can be around 1 hour.
If you want to use the local photographer service, a tip of around Rp50,000–100,000 is commonly given, depending on your preference.
However, if your main goal is simply to explore the waterfall and you don’t need professional photos, I recommend taking the left-side route after entering the area.
The right side generally leads toward the popular photo area and photographer queue.
The left side allows you to explore another part of Kanto Lampo, including the cave area. You can also access the waterfall from this side, although you may need to get into the water or swim a little.
For Mr. Will and his family, I recommended the left route because they preferred exploring the waterfall rather than waiting for photos.
01:00 PM — Leave for Tibumana Waterfall
At approximately 1:00 PM, we continued to Tibumana Waterfall.
The journey took around 30 minutes.
01:30 PM — Arrive at Tibumana Waterfall
We arrived at Tibumana at approximately 1:30 PM.
Instead of going directly to the waterfall, we first stopped for lunch and some time to relax.
01:30–02:30 PM — Lunch & Relax at Dcarik Tibumana
We stopped at Dcarik Tibumana Pool Bar & Restaurant, which has both a restaurant and swimming pool.
One useful option for visitors is that you can access the pool by spending around Rp100,000 per person.
This is a nice option if you want to have lunch and cool down before walking to the waterfall.
02:30–04:00 PM — Tibumana Waterfall
After lunch and relaxing, we continued on foot toward Tibumana Waterfall.
We spent approximately 2.5 hours in the Tibumana area, including lunch, relaxing, walking, and enjoying the waterfall.
Tibumana was the final waterfall of the day.
04:00 PM — Return to Kuta–Legian
At around 4:00 PM, we started heading back to the hotel in Kuta–Legian.
The journey back took approximately 2 hours, depending on traffic.
06:00 PM — Arrive at Hotel
We arrived back at the hotel at approximately 6:00 PM.
Tour completed.
Ubud Waterfall Entrance Fees
The private driver price does not include entrance tickets. Here are the entrance fees for the three waterfalls in this itinerary:
| Destination | Entrance Fee |
|---|---|
| Tegenungan Waterfall | Rp30,000 / person |
| Kanto Lampo Waterfall | Rp25,000 / person |
| Tibumana Waterfall | Rp25,000 / person |
| Total | Rp80,000 / person |
Total Cost Example
For a couple using a New Toyota Avanza Facelift:
Private driver: Rp750,000 / car for 10 hours private tour
3 waterfall entrance tickets: Rp80,000
This is one of the advantages of a private tour: the vehicle cost is per car, so the cost can be shared between everyone in your group.
Why Choose a Private Driver for 3 Ubud Waterfalls?
Visiting three waterfalls from Kuta–Legian in one day involves several hours of driving, so having a private car can make the trip more comfortable. With a private driver, you can:
- Start from your hotel in Kuta or Legian
- Visit multiple waterfalls in one day
- Adjust your time at each destination
- Stop for lunch when convenient
- Get local route recommendations
- Avoid joining a fixed group schedule
- Customize your itinerary based on your interests
For example, in this trip, Mr. Will and his family were not interested in professional waterfall photography. Because of that, I recommended an alternative route at Kanto Lampo to avoid spending time in the photographer queue.
That is one of the benefits of having a local private driver who can guide you based on your actual interests, rather than simply following a fixed itinerary.
More Things to Do in Ubud With a Private Driver?
You don’t have to follow exactly the same itinerary as Mr. Will and his family. I can help create a custom Ubud private tour based on your interests, hotel location, number of people, and available time. You can combine the waterfalls with places such as:
- Tegallalang Rice Terrace
- Ubud Monkey Forest
- Tirta Empul Temple
- Coffee Plantation
- Bali Swing
- Kintamani
- Local restaurants
- Scenic viewpoints
If you prefer a slower trip, we can visit fewer destinations and spend more time at each place. If you want to see more attractions, I can also help arrange a more efficient route.
