“Which car should we choose for our Bali private tour?”

The answer is not always the cheapest car.

It depends on how many people are traveling, how much luggage you have and whether you will spend 10 hours traveling around Bali.

If you are mainly visiting attractions around Bali and do not have much luggage, the Avanza can be a practical and economical choice.

However, I always recommend considering the amount of time you will spend inside the car.

A 10-hour tour is very different from a short airport transfer. If you are traveling with a family and want more space during a long day, upgrading to an Innova Reborn may be worth considering.

2. Toyota Innova Reborn From Rp900,000

The Innova Reborn is the vehicle I would generally recommend to families who want more cabin space and comfort.

Starting from Rp900,000 for a full-day tour.

It is suitable for:

• Around 4 people with medium luggage
• Up to 6 people when luggage is limited
• Families
• Long-distance Bali tours
• Travelers who prefer additional space

As someone who drives tourists around Bali, I have seen that vehicle comfort becomes more important when guests spend most of the day traveling.

For example, an itinerary involving several destinations in Ubud, Kintamani, central Bali or North Bali can involve considerable driving time.

For these types of trips, the larger space of the Innova Reborn can make the day more comfortable.

For families with children, this is often a better option than choosing a vehicle purely based on price.

3. HiAce Van From Rp1,200,000

For larger families and groups, the HiAce is designed to keep everyone together.

Starting from Rp1,200,000 for a full-day tour.

Recommended capacity:

• Up to 8 people with luggage
• Up to 14 people without luggage

From my experience organizing private Bali trips, larger groups often prefer a single vehicle because splitting into several cars can make the day more complicated.

What Is Included in the Private Driver Price?

One thing I always explain to guests is that the private driver price is not simply a payment for someone to drive the car.

How Many Hours Is a Full-Day Private Driver?

The standard full-day private driver service is:

10 hours + 1 complimentary extra hour.

I use this structure because Bali itineraries do not always finish exactly according to the planned schedule.

A guest may spend a little longer at a temple, restaurant or attraction.

The complimentary extra hour provides some flexibility.

If you need more time beyond the included period, an additional hourly charge applies.

The starting overtime rates are:

• New Series Avanza: Rp50,000/hour
• Innova Reborn: Rp75,000/hour
• HiAce: Rp100,000/hour

If I know that a guest has an itinerary that may require significantly more than the standard duration, I prefer to discuss it before the tour rather than surprise the guest with additional charges at the end.

How Much Should You Tip a Private Driver in Bali?

Guests often ask me:

“Oka, how much should we tip our private driver?”

My answer is simple:

You don’t have to.

Tipping a private driver in Bali is not mandatory.

If you feel that your driver has provided excellent service, helped your family, taken good photos, suggested useful places or made the day easier, you can give a tip as a personal appreciation.

A general optional guideline is around:

5–10% of the total private tour payment.

For example, for a Rp900,000 private driver service:

• 5% = Rp45,000
• 10% = Rp90,000

But there is no fixed rule.

A positive review and recommendation are also valuable to a local driver and small tourism business.

Can I Request a Baby Car Seat?

Yes.

If you are traveling with a baby or young child, you can request a baby car seat when booking.

Baby car seat: Rp100,000 per tour.

I recommend requesting it when you make your booking because availability needs to be checked in advance.

Which Bali Private Car Should You Choose?

Based on my experience working directly with tourists, I normally suggest looking at three things:

Number of people + luggage + comfort.

New Series Avanza — From Rp650,000

Choose this if you have:

Up to 5 people without luggage or around 4 people with light luggage.

Good for small groups and travelers looking for an affordable private car.

Innova Reborn — From Rp900,000

Choose this if you have:

Around 4 people with medium luggage or up to 6 people with limited luggage.

HiAce — From Rp1,200,000

Choose this if you have:

Up to 8 people with luggage or up to 14 people without luggage.

This is the practical choice for big families and larger groups who want to stay together.

My Experience as a Bali Private Tourism Driver

After working directly with tourists in Bali, I have learned that the cheapest vehicle is not always the best value.

For example, a family of four may initially choose an Avanza because it has the lowest price.

But if they have luggage, children and a 10-hour itinerary, the additional space of an Innova Reborn can make the trip considerably more comfortable.
